"Confetti Kids" baby and toddler sweater & hat

SIZES:  Directions are for infant’s size 9 mos.  Changes for size 12 mos and children’s sizes 2, 4 and 6 are in parentheses
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

MATERIALS
2 (2-2-2-3) Balls Confetti Patterned Sock Yarn (100 grs), 1 skein Confetti solid sock yarn (50grs)
Straight knitting needles, sizes 2 (2.50 mm) and 3 (3.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Four  1/2” buttons
GAUGE
28 sts = 4”;  36 rows = 4” in St st on larger needles
TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE
BACK
With smaller needles, cast on 70 (78-86-90-98) sts.
Ribbing:  Row 1 (RS):  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 1” from beg, end on WS, dec 0(0-1-0-0) st at beg and end of last row – 70 (78-84-90-98) sts.  Change to larger needles and work even in St st until piece measures 8 1/2 (9-10-10 1/2-11)” from beg, end on WS.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes.  Work even until armholes measure 4 1/2(5-5-5 1/2-6)”, end on WS.  Bind off.  With RS facing, measure in 2 3/4 (3 1/2-3 1/2-3 3/4-4)” from last st on bound-off edge and place marker.

Buttonhole Band:  With RS facing, using smaller needles, beg at marker, pick up and k22(26-26-30-34) sts along bound-off edge to left side.  Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as lower edge for 1/2”, end on WS.

Buttonhole Row (RS):  Work 2(3-3-3-4) sts, bind off 2 sts, * work until there are 3(4-4-5-6) sts on RH needle after bound-off sts, bind off 2 sts, rep from * twice more, work to end.  On next row, cast on 2 sts over each pair of sts bound off on previous row.  Work even in ribbing as established until band measures 1”, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.

FRONT
Work same as back until armholes measure approximately 2 1/2(3-3-3 1/2-4)”, end on WS.
Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  K26(30-31-33-35), join another ball of yarn and bind off center 18(18-22-24-28) sts, k to end.  Working both sides at once, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge once, then dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 4(4-5-5-5) times.  Work even on 20(24-24-26-28) sts each side until armholes measure 4½(5-5-5½-6)”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.  Sew right shoulder seam.
Neckband:  With RS facing, using smaller needles, beg at left front shoulder, pick up and k16 sts along left front neck edge, 18(18-22-24-28) sts across front neck edge, 16 sts along right front neck edge, 32(32-36-38-42) sts across back neck edge, then 8 sts along side edge of buttonband – 90(90-98-102-110) sts.  Beg with Row 2, work even in ribbing same as back for 1”, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.
Edging:  With WS facing, using smaller needles, beg at outer corner of buttonband, pick up and k22 (26-26-30-34) sts along bound-off edge of buttonband, 8 sts along side edge of neckband, 90 (90-98-102-110) sts along bound-off edge of neckband, then 22 (26-26-30-34) sts along left front shoulder edge -
142 (150-158-170-186) sts.  Bind off.  Lap buttonband over left front shoulder edge and mark placement of 4 buttons under buttonholes.  Sew on buttons, button shoulder.
SLEEVES
With RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k64(70-70-78-84) sts between markers, (working through double thickness of buttonband and shoulder on left side).  Beg with a p row, work in St st, dec 1 st each side every 6th row 1(0-12-8-7) times, then every 4th row 12(16-0-8-12) times – 38 (38-46-46-46) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 7(8-9-10-11)” from beg, end on WS.  Change to smaller needles and work even in ribbing same as back for 1”, end on WS.  Bind off in ribbing.
FINISHING
Sew side and sleeve seams. Weave in ends

Confetti Baby Hat :
Material: 1 ball of Confetti self patterning sock yarn, small amount of Confetti solid sock yarn for ribbing.
3 mm 16" circular needle and/or double pointed needles
28 sts = 4”;  36 rows = 4” in St st on larger needles
Hat
Cast on 72  st. to circular needle or double pointed needles with solid Confetti sock yarn.
join in the round being careful not to twist stitches. Place a stitch marker to mark your beginning round.
work in K1, P1 ribbing for 1 1/2".  Change to patterned sock yarn.
Knit all rounds until the hat measures  4 1/2" ( 12cm) from beginning.
Shape crown:
*Knit 6 k2tog* repeat until end of round
Knit next round.
*K 5 , K2 tog* repeat until end of round
Repeat these rounds until *K2 tog around round is completed. Knit one round even and bind off.  Weave in ends.
Note:  Change to double pointed needles when it get tight on circular needles.


 
BASIC SOCK PATTERN In 8 sizes

Materials:   1 ball DGB 'CONFETTI' sock  yarn, 100gm - 420 m, OR 2 balls of 50 gm sock yarn.
75% superwash wool/25% nylon - MC
optional:  1 ball,  Confetti solid 50 gm, 210 m or Preface sock yarn, 50 gm, 193 m - CC for contrasting cuffs, heels and toes.
size 0-2 (2-2.75 mm) needles.  Set of 5.           Gauge:  7 - 8 sts=1".
Sizes: Child’s small (2-4), medium(6-8), large (10-12) Adult - ladies small,
medium, ladies large/men's small, men's medium, large.
Abbreviations:
MC  main colour, CC - contrasting colour
ssk:  slip the next 2 stitches one at a time, insert left needle into stitches, and knit these 2 stitches together.

Cuff: (optional: knit using coordinating 'Preface' solid yarn - CC)
Cast on 44 (48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 68, 72) stitches and divide evenly on needles
and knit in K2, P2 rib for 2- 2 1/2"
Leg: with MC work in stockinette stitch (knit every round) and continue until leg measures 5" for child's sizes, 
7- 8 " for ladies and 8 - 9" for men's sizes, from beginning.
Heel: (optional: knit using coordinating solid yarn - CC)
Leaving the 22 (24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36) instep stitches on needles, work
heel flap back & forth over the rem. 22 (24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36) sts.
Row 1: sl 1, * k1, sl 1* rep from * ending with k1.
Row 2: sl 1, purl across.
Rep rows 1-2 until heel flap is 1 3/4"-2" long for child's sizes, 2 3/4" for adult
Turn Heel (optional: knit using coordinating solid yarn)
Row 1: k 12 (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19) sts, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 2:  sl 1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 3:  sl 1, k6, ssk, k1, turn
Row 4:  sl 1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 5:  sl 1, k8, ssk, k1, turn
Cont. working one more stitch, until all sts have been worked. End with a purl row.
Gusset:   Knit half of the heel sts and place a marker here.
Rounds now start in the middle of the heel flap. Knit the remaining half of the heel
stitches with a new needle (needle #1) and pick up 1 stitch in each of the slipped
edge stitches along the heel flap, and 1 additional stitch where heel flap and instep join.
Work across instep (needles 2 & 3 ). Pick up and knit 1 stitch where instep and
heel flap join and 1 stitch in each slipped stitch along the edge of the heel flap,
then knit half of the heel stitches (to marker).  Needles 1 & 4 should have the
same number of sts, these are for the heel & gusset sts.   Knit 1 round even.
Gusset Decreasing:
Next row - * Knit to last 2 stitches on needle 1, K2tog.
Knit the instep stitches on needles 2 & 3.
On needle 4, ssk, knit to end.  Work 1 round even*.   Rep from
* to * until there are 11 (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18) sts on each needle,
- 44 (48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 68, 72) sts in total
Foot: (optional: knit using coordinating solid yarn - CC)
Continue knitting in the round until the foot is the desired length less
1 1/4" for childrens sizes and 1 1/2" for adult sizes.  Begin toe decreasing.
Round Toe: (optional: knit using coordinating solid yarn - CC)
Dec. round: needle 1 - work to last 3 sts. k2tog, k1
needle 2 - k1, ssk, knit to end
needle 3 -work to last 3 st. k2tog, k1
needle 4 -k1, ssk, knit to end
Next round:  work around all sts evenly. Repeat these 2 rounds (1 dec. round,
then 1 round even) until 12 (12, 16, 16, 20, 20, 24, 24) sts. remain.
Divide sts evenly onto 2 needles. Graft stitches together to close toe.
**With any leftovers, combine with solid yarn and knit  the leg in the patterned yarn as shown in 2nd photo.


 
'SHAWA' MITTEN
Materials: 1 ball Confetti 100 gm or 2 balls Preface  50gm
2 - 16 or 24" circular needles size 2.5 - 3 mm (US #1-2)
6" length of contrasting yarn.
darning needle for weaving in ends
Gauge: 8 sts = 1"
Note: both mittens are knit the same and will fit either hand
Size: children, ladies average, men's average

Cast on 52 (56, 60) sts - pm & join in the round without twisting
For all sizes, work in k2 p2 ribbing for 2 3/4 "
Increase 4 sts evenly on your last round - 56 (60, 64) sts
work in st st (knit each round) for 20 (25, 30) rounds.
Next round:
Work thumb opening:
For right hand, knit first 10 (12, 14) sts on needle #1 with contrasting yarn for thumb,
(for left hand, knit last 10 ( 12, 14) sts on needle #1 with contrasting yarn)
put those sts back onto the left hand needle and knit them with the mitten yarn.
Continue knitting  for 40 (45, 50) rounds or desired length,  then beg. top decreases.

Decrease for Top of Fingers:  K1, ssk to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.  Repeat for 2nd needle.
work 2 rounds even, then dec round (twice).
k1 round even, then dec round (twice).
Decrease each round until there are 10 ( 10, 12)sts left on each needle, 20 (20, 24) sts total.
Graft sts together using the Kitchener stitch to close top.
Thumb:  Carefully pull out the contrasting yarn and pick up the sts with your 2 circular needles evenly + 1 extra st on each side of the opening - 12 (14, 16) sts on each needle.  Rejoin yarn and knit 20 ( 24, 28) rounds and decrease for the top of the thumb (same as top of fingers decreasing above) until there are 6 (8, 10) sts on each needle.  Cut yarn leaving an 8" tail and draw through remaining sts,  pull tightly and secure.


 
'WHISTLER'  WRIST WARMERS
Whistler Wrist Warmers/Fingerless gloves
Materials: 1 ball Confetti 100 gm or 2 balls Preface yarn, 50gm
2 - 16 or 24" circular needles size 2.5 - 3 mm (US #1-2)
6" length of contrasting yarn.

darning needle for weaving in ends
Gauge: 8 sts = 1"
Note: both wrist warmers are knit the same and will fit either hand
Size: children, ladies S-M, ladies M-L, men's average

Cast on 52 (56, 60, 64) sts divided evenly on 2 circular needles.  Mark the
beginning of the round and join in the round without twisting
Work in k2 p2 ribbing for 4 1/2 (5, 5, 6)" or desired length
Thumb opening
Next round:  Knit the first 10 (12, 12, 14) sts on needle #1 with contrasting waste yarn for thumb, (leave a tail at the beginning and end of these stitches which will make it easy to pull the yarn out later to work the thumb).
Put the sts just worked with the contrasting waste yarn back onto the left hand needle and knit them with the sock yarn.  Continue to knit 20 (24, 24, 28) rounds in k2, p2 ribbing, bind off loosely in rib.
Thumb
Carefully pull out the contrasting waste yarn and pick up the sts evenly with the 2 circular needles plus 1 extra st on each side of the opening - 12 (14,14, 16) sts on each needle.  Rejoin sock yarn and knit 12 (14, 14, 16) rounds in k2, p2 ribbing.  Bind off loosely in rib.  Weave in ends.


 
'OH! BABY'Baby Bootie
SIZES:  Newborn, 3 months, 6 months
MATERIALS:  1 Ball DK baby confetti dot patterned yarn: shown in Sirdar Snuggly DK'
*other great yarns:  Wendy Peter Pan spot prints, Stylecraft Wondersoft Baby DK prints
1 set of 4 needles size 3 1/2 mm, tapestry needle
GAUGE:  24 sts and 38 rows to 4" (10cm) over garter st using 3 1/2 mm needles
SK2P- slip 1 stitch, k2tog, pass slipped stitch over.

CUFF
Cast on 15 sts and work in garter st for 5 (5 1/2, 6 1/2)".  Cast off.
Along one long edge, pick up and k 30 (34, 38)sts.
Work in garter st for 10 (12, 14) rows.  Cut yarn.
INSTEP
Next row (RS) place first and last
10 (12, 14) sts on a holder
And work 11 (13, 13) rows in garter st on center 10 sts.   Cut yarn.
Next row (RS) Work 10 (12, 14) sts from right holder, pick up and k 7 (8, 9) sts along side of instep,
work center 10 sts on needle, pick up and k 7 (8, 9) sts along other side of instep,  work 10 (12, 14) sts from
left holder - 44 (50, 56) sts.
Knit next row, inc 1 st each side of center 10 sts - 46 (52, 58) sts.  Cont in garter st for 10 (12, 14) rows.
SOLE
Next row (RS)
k3 (4, 5), SK2P, K11 (12, 13), K3 tog, k6 (8, 10), SK2P, k11 (12, 13), k3tog, K4 (4, 5) - 38 (44, 50) sts.
K 1 row.
Next row (RS)
k2 (3, 4), SK2P, k9 (10, 11), k3 tog, k4 (6, 8), SK2P,

Divide sts on two needles and weave sts tog.
Sew back seam, reversing seam at cuff.  Weave in all ends
